On September 1, 2021, Murang'a County Governor Mwangi wa Iria addressed officials of the 35 dairy cooperatives in Murang'a town, outlining his vision for the county's dairy industry.

According to the governor, the Murang'a County Dairy Act will protect the milk value chain from sabotage, ensuring the interests of the 350,000 farmers are safeguarded.

The county government plans to hand over the Murang'a County Creameries to dairy cooperatives, with the county set to control 10% of shares. The factory, a brainchild of Governor Mwangi wa Iria, will be controlled by dairy cooperatives as the majority shareholder.

Notably, the price of milk has increased to Sh40 per litre, up from Sh35, with farmers set to earn in excess of Sh1 billion annually. The county government has also committed to paying farmers on the fifth of every month without fail.

Additionally, an animal feeds processing plant is set to be completed in December, further boosting the county's dairy industry.
