Published on September 4, 2021, Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro unveiled the Assembly's 2020-2024 strategic plan, which includes a major construction project.
The project aims to build a new County Assembly with modern debating chambers and offices for Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and staff.
According to Oraro, the current Assembly lacks sufficient space to accommodate its staff and MCAs, resulting in the need for rented office space.
Oraro stated, 'It has been learnt and it is true that physical clean work environment directly improves on the performance of workers.'
The Assembly has already set aside Sh150 million for the construction of the new premises, which will be built next to Tom Mboya Labour College.
Oraro emphasized that the new premises will help reduce costs associated with renting office space, citing the current expenditure of Sh400,000 per month for two floors of office space at Mega Plaza.
He added, 'When we do an Assembly with offices and chambers, we will be able to save some amounts of money that can go to other areas.'
