Man Arrested for Impersonating Police in Nyeri

On September 3, 2021, a man was arrested by police in Nyeri for impersonating GSU officers and extorting locals during curfew hours.

According to the authorities, the man would often wear a GSU uniform and arrest locals before forcing them to buy their freedom.

Locals reported that the man would dress in full police uniform around 10 pm and go around arresting unsuspecting members of the public.

Police officers at the Nyeri County Police Commander's office confirmed the arrest and said the suspect would be arraigned in court soon.

The police have launched a manhunt for the suspect's accomplices and other partners in crime.

Police Commander Adriel Nyange praised community policing and promised to continue working with citizens to bring to book such miscreants.

The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment.
