Governor Waiguru Set to Formalize Marriage in Traditional Kikuyu Wedding

Published on July 3, 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is set to formalize her marriage to Kamoto Waiganjo, an advocate of the High Court, in a traditional Kikuyu wedding.

The couple will participate in the 'ngurario' ceremony, a traditional Kikuyu wedding, on July 13, 2019, at Kiamugumo Primary School in Kirinyaga County.

According to Kikuyu customs, after the ceremony, the woman is considered fully taken and part of her husband's family, and she cannot marry another man.

The 'ngurario' ceremony is the final part of the Kikuyu wedding process, which aims to formalize the marriage under the Gikuyu rites.
