On her 100th day in office, Chief Justice Martha Koome emphasized the importance of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) framework in processing complaints against judicial officers.
Speaking to Capital in the Morning on Friday, Koome expressed concern that dramatic arrests of judges, such as those of Justices Said Chitembwe and Aggrey Muchelule in July, serve only to undermine the judiciary.
She also referenced the dramatic arrest of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu in August 2018, a case that later collapsed.
According to Article 172 of the Constitution, the JSC is mandated to receive complaints against, investigate, and remove from office or otherwise discipline registrars, magistrates, other judicial officers, and other staff of the Judiciary.
