Kenya's COVID-19 Positivity Rate at 12.2% Amid Vaccine Deliveries

Kenya's COVID-19 positivity rate stood at 12.2% on September 2, 2021, with 970 new cases reported, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 237,851.

The youngest case was an 8-month-old child, while the oldest was 97 years old, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new cases were reported in various counties, with Nairobi leading at 306, followed by Nyandarua, Kiambu, Kajiado, Nakuru, Murang'a, Kericho, Uasin Gishu, Mombasa, Garissa, and Laikipia.

On the same day, the Ministry reported 7 deaths, bringing the death toll to 4,746.

As of September 2, 2021, a total of 2,807,945 vaccine doses had been administered, with 2.96% of adults fully vaccinated.

Kenya received 459,300 AstraZeneca vaccine doses from the Canadian government on September 2, 2021, with more shipments expected in the coming weeks.

Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache announced that the first shipment of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was due on September 3, 2021, with Moderna and Sinopharm vaccines from China also expected in the coming weeks.

Additionally, 2 million doses of Pfizer vaccine from the United States were expected to arrive in the country within the month of September.
