Police in Bungoma county have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of a chief, known as Michuki, who was found dead in a maize plantation last week.
According to sources, the four prime suspects, two men and two women, were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of the 57-year-old administrator.
The chief, who was instrumental in fighting against illicit liquor, rape, insecurity, and teen pregnancies in the community, had been missing for six days before his body was discovered.
Following his death, residents stormed a local illicit brew den and torched houses that they suspected harboured the people who might have killed him.
County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti has assured the public that justice will be served, and the government will not tolerate such heinous crimes.
"I want to urge residents to keep calm and give police ample time to investigate the matter," Kimiti said. "You cannot kill a government official and expect to go scot free. I want to tell all those who were involved they will be arrested and prosecuted," he added.
The government has deployed GSU, regular police, and military officers to enhance security in the area.
