On Wednesday, a tragic incident unfolded in Nyeri, where a 33-year-old man, Elias Muriithi, brutally hacked his 39-year-old brother, Joseph Maina, to death.
The motive behind the heinous crime was a three-seater sofa set, which the deceased had taken from their mother's house and was now being demanded back by Muriithi, allegedly under their mother's instructions.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a quarrel ensued between the two brothers after Muriithi opposed the move to repossess the couch, leading to a fierce fight.
During the altercation, Muriithi allegedly used a machete to cut his brother several times before smashing his head with a blunt object, resulting in his instant death.
Realizing the gravity of his actions, Muriithi fled the scene and later turned himself in at the Mathari Police Post to avoid the wrath of the locals.
Neighbours who rushed to the scene found the deceased lying in a pool of blood, and officers from Mathari Police Post processed the crime scene, launching a probe into the killing.
The suspect, Elias Muriithi, will be arraigned after the investigations are completed.
