On September 2, 2021, the East African Business Council (EABC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to roll out the Mansa digital platform in the region.

The partnership aims to boost East African companies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by enabling them to access a centralized source of due diligence information, facilitating their participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area.

According to John Bosco Kalisa, EABC chief executive, the Mansa digital platform will provide a single primary source of Know-Your-Customer data required to conduct customer due diligence checks on counterparties in Africa, focusing on African corporates, SMEs, and financial institutions.

The digital platform is expected to unlock the flow of capital, helping to expand the scale of business in Africa through increased accessibility to trade finance.
