On August 25, a gunman went on a rampage in Dar es Salaam's diplomatic quarter, killing three officers and a private security guard in a rare attack in the East African nation.

According to police, the gunman, identified as Hamza Mohamed, was a 'terrorist' who was radicalized by social media.

Police investigations revealed that Mohamed spent much of his time learning about terrorism incidents online, like many terrorists do.

The attack, which took place near the French embassy, left six others injured and shocked the community.

Neighbours expressed shock at the shooting, describing Mohamed as an ordinary person who lived with his mother in a flat about two kilometres from the incident.

Such attacks are rare in Tanzania, which has been largely peaceful in contrast to its volatile neighbours.

On Friday, dozens of police officers, politicians, and citizens gathered to pay their last respects to the slain officers.
