On August 27, two senior teachers at Thiru Primary School in Nyahururu allegedly tied three Standard Five pupils to a tree as punishment for truancy.
According to an investigation led by Nyahururu Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Moses Muroki, the teachers' actions were captured in photos and shared on the school's WhatsApp group.
"According to our investigations, it is true that they were tied to a tree for truancy. We have recommended that the DCI takes up the matter and prosecutes them," Muroki said.
Laikipia County Director of Children Services Ezekiel Mwanza condemned the teachers' actions, calling them inhuman. "It is unfortunate for teachers to display such kind of behaviour," he said.
The Rift Valley Teachers Service Commission has also promised to take disciplinary action against the two teachers if they are found culpable.
As part of the investigation, the Laikipia County Department of Children Services will open a protection and care file for the three affected pupils and provide them with counselling lessons.
