Published on September 2, 2021, a USAID-funded program has come to the aid of drought-stricken pastoralists in Isiolo County's Chari and Oldonyiro Wards.
Isiolo Governor, Dr. Mohammed Kuti, flagged off the distribution of animal feeds to support the livelihoods of over 1,000 pastoralists whose livestock have been severely affected by the drought.
The Nawiri Emergency Response Program, in partnership with the county government and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), aims to provide essential nutrients to the livestock through 837 bags of range cubes and 1,800 bales of hay.
Additionally, two generators were flagged off to support the repair and maintenance of six existing boreholes, which will ensure a continuous flow of water for both livestock and domestic use in the affected areas.
Dr. Mohammed Kuti emphasized the need for sustainable long-term projects to address the water crisis in the region, while Thomas Musyoki, Head of Nawiri Isiolo County, committed to supporting the communities with similar projects in the future.
The Nawiri program, worth 8 billion shillings over five years, is currently operational in Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
