On 30th July, 2020, the Environment and Lands Court ordered Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to pay businessman David Gitau Thairu Ksh.5,590,443.15 after trespassing and dumping waste into his land.

The court had directed Mutua and his administration to remove the waste dumped into the parcel of land in Machakos town, but the Governor failed to comply with the order.

As a result, Machakos Principle Magistrate C.N Ondieki issued a warrant of arrest against Mutua, ordering the Machakos Police Station OCS to present him in court as soon as possible unless he pays the said amount.

"You are further commanded to return this warrant as soon as it is executed or the money noted in the margin is tendered to you with an endorsement certifying the day on which and manner in which it has been executed, or the reason why it has not been executed," wrote Magistrate CN Ondieki.
