Starehe MP Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, was in the spotlight on Wednesday after being arraigned in court and pleading not guilty to one charge of incitement to violence.

According to reports, the Prosecution did not object to the MP's request for bail, stating that the court should consider the authorities' request for bail and bond.

State Prosecutor Duncan Ondimu noted that the accused person is an MP and believed that the court would put in appropriate bail terms.

However, through his lawyer Dancan Okatch, Jaguar urged the court not to consider the authorities' request, arguing that the MP would not abscond and should be granted free bond.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi considered the submissions by the parties and the authorities, stating that the accused is an MP who has pleaded not guilty.

He noted that such remarks against foreigners portray a bad image to the country and that if indeed Jaguar perceived that people are in the country illegally, he can use the proper mechanism.

Magistrate Andayi directed that the MP be released on Ksh.500,000 cash bail on condition that he desist from using detrimental language.

The case will be mentioned on July 17, this year.
