Published on September 1, 2021, NCBA Bank Group has rehired employees it fired in June 2020 as part of a new expansion drive. The bank has rehired up to 175 employees who were initially laid off due to cost-cutting measures.
According to NCBA chief executive officer John Gachora, the bank released 350 non-permanent staff in June 2020. Half of them have already returned to the bank, with most now on permanent contracts.
The move to fire employees in 2020 saw the bank spend Sh. 700.7 million. The bank's total staff count dropped to 2,392 in December 2020 from 2,598 the year before.
NCBA has been expanding its operations, opening new branches in various locations including Nairobi, Embu, Kikuyu, Ngong, Kiambu, Kericho, Bungoma, and Naivasha. The bank has already opened branches at Kamakis, Nyeri Mall, Mitchell Cotts, Karatina, Kakamega, and Mwembe Tayari.
