On August 14, Ivory Coast declared its first Ebola outbreak in over 25 years following a positive test result for a woman who had traveled from northern Guinea to Abidjan, the country's commercial capital.
However, subsequent testing in France came back negative, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has now confirmed that the woman did not have Ebola virus disease.
According to the WHO, the initial test was conducted by a lab in Ivory Coast, but further analysis on the cause of the woman's illness is ongoing.
More than 140 of the woman's contacts in Guinea and Ivory Coast were listed, but none of them developed symptoms or tested positive for the virus.
As of now, there is no evidence of an Ebola outbreak in Ivory Coast, and the WHO has refuted claims of the same.
It is worth noting that Ebola typically kills about half of those it infects, although vaccines and new treatments have proven highly effective in reducing fatality rates.
