On August 31, 2021, Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal from Barcelona for a reported £21.5m fee.
Emerson, 22, has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2026.
"We are delighted to announce the signing of Emerson Royal from Barcelona, subject to international clearance and a work permit," read a statement from the club.
Emerson departs Camp Nou having made just three appearances since joining Barca from Real Betis in 2019.
He spent the last two seasons with Real Betis, scoring one goal and recording four assists in 34 LaLiga appearances last season.
Emerson will wear the number 12 shirt, vacated by Victor Wanyama who joined MLS side CF Montreal in March 2020.
He becomes Tottenham's fifth signing after the arrivals of Cristian Romero, Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Pape Sarr.
Spurs top the Premier League table with a perfect record from their opening three matches.
