Microsoft's highly anticipated Windows 11 operating system is set to launch on October 5th, but it won't have one of its most touted features: Android app support. According to Microsoft, the feature, which was initially planned to be available at launch, will now be available in preview for Windows Insiders later this year.

As reported by Android Kenya on August 31, 2021, Microsoft had planned to bring Android apps to Windows 11 in association with Amazon and Intel. However, it seems that the feature won't be available on day one.

"We look forward to continuing our journey to bring Android apps to Windows 11 and the Microsoft Store through our collaboration with Amazon and Intel; this will start with a preview for Windows Insiders over the coming months," said Aaron Woodman, General Manager of Windows marketing at Microsoft.

Despite the delay, Windows 11 will still offer a range of exciting features, including Microsoft Teams integration, a new design with an updated menu, Snap Layouts, Groups, Desktops for improved multitasking, and a revamped Microsoft Store app.

Microsoft has also confirmed that Windows 11 will be available as a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs. However, new PCs will still get it first, followed by existing devices receiving the upgrade in the weeks and months to come. Microsoft says it expects to offer all eligible Windows 10 PCs a free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022.
