Kenya's COVID-19 caseload continued to rise on August 31, 2021, with 565 new cases recorded, bringing the total to 235,863.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the new cases during his daily update to the press, stating that the country's positivity rate stood at 12.6 percent.
According to Kagwe, the new infections were recorded from 4,494 samples tested.
Kenya's total number of virus-related fatalities stood at 4,726 by August 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, 1,280 patients have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 223,637.
Kenya had vaccinated more than 2.7 million people against the virus by August 31, 2021.
As part of efforts to increase vaccination rates, the Ministry of Health had developed a framework for the deployment and administration of COVID-19 vaccines by private health facilities.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe emphasized that the administration of COVID-19 doses is free and warned against illegal vaccination stations.
He prohibited COVID-19 vaccination outside the government-sanctioned framework, citing risks and potential fatalities.
