On August 31, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated four individuals to serve as commissioners at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The nominees, Juliana Cherera, Francis Mathenge Wanderi, Irene Cherop Masit, and Justus Abonyo Nyang'aya, have a combined wealth of Sh213 million.

According to their wealth declarations, the nominees provided a detailed breakdown of all the sources of their wealth, unlike in the past when only presidential nominees provided their lump sum net worth.

Francis Mathenge Wanderi tops the rich list with a net worth of Sh100 million, followed by Justus Abonyo Nyang'aya with Sh49.5 million, Irene Cherop Masit with Sh47 million, and Juliana Cherera with Sh16.6 million.

The nominees' wealth is derived from various sources, including real estate, agriculture consultancy, shareholding, and rental income. For example, Francis Mathenge Wanderi earns rental income of Sh150,000 per month, board sitting allowances of Sh75,000 per month, dividends of Sh105,000, and farming income of Sh80,000 monthly.

The nominees are set to be approved by Parliament for appointment as IEBC commissioners. The wealth declarations are meant to allow the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to detect and prevent corruption when top public servants are serving in office.
