On August 31, 2021, a Nairobi court heard a disturbing case of child exploitation involving two Tanzanians.
Kuvi Paulo Silva and Sita Yohana were charged with transporting and harboring a 14-year-old disabled child from Tanzania to Shauri Moyo in Kenya, with the intention of exploiting the child's vulnerability.
The duo allegedly committed the offence between 2019 and August 20, 2021, and further denied a second charge of economic exploitation of a child under the Children's Act.
According to the court, they negligently engaged with the child in begging, which interfered with the child's education and physical health.
In addition to the child exploitation charges, the duo was also charged with being in Kenya without a valid pass, in contravention of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act.
They were released on a Sh500,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh300,000 each.
