Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) members in Meru are eager to receive Covid-19 vaccines, but face challenges due to unavailability of vaccines at local health facilities.

On Monday, August 31, 2021, KNUT Meru branch Executive Secretary Caxton Miungi addressed journalists in Meru town, expressing the union's concerns.

"Our teachers are more than ready to be vaccinated, but we want the government to assure us of the availability of vaccines from health facilities," Miungi said.

He proposed that teachers be visited in their clusters and vaccinated at convenient locations to ensure compliance.

"With our clusters, we can set a specific date to ensure all teachers receive the vaccine and put an end to vaccination challenges," Miungi added.

KNUT has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to stop issuing ultimatums and threatening teachers who fail to receive the vaccine, citing demoralization of teachers.
