On August 30, 2021, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha visited Baringo County to follow up on the government's initiative to achieve 100 per cent transition to secondary education.
However, he was angered by the Rift Valley Regional Director of Education John Lekakeny's failure to tour the region, which was lagging behind at 80 per cent.
Prof Magoha, who was accompanied by Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui, also visited two houses in Kaprogonya and Kapkut village in Kabarnet where he picked some four students and supervised their enrollment into Kituro High School.
They then proceeded to Baringo South for the groundbreaking of Salabani Primary School, where learning was disrupted after classrooms were destroyed by floods in the area.
Magoha's outburst is reminiscent of a similar incident on July 22, 2021, when he castigated Ministry of Education officials for failing to show a documentary detailing the success of the Elimu Scholarship, which targets Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) candidates from Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL) and marginalised areas.
