On August 30, 2021, Farida Idris, Group Commercial Director at Capital FM in Kenya, participated in Broadcast Media Africa's (BMA) third online forum, focusing on 'Community Broadcasting – Use Podcasting To Maximum Leverage.'
During the discussion, Idris highlighted the importance of creating a single area of focus in podcasting, stating that this approach would likely attract sponsors. However, she also acknowledged that internet connectivity and data costs remain significant barriers to achieving revenue-generating goals.
Idris emphasized that telcos must play a crucial role in making affordable data bundles available, which would enable the broadcasting media space, particularly podcasting, to reach its maximum potential.
She further noted that the current data environment favors affluent neighborhoods, where residents can afford and access unlimited internet connectivity through fiber and uncapped connections.
The online forum was an initiative by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), in partnership with 2GwanaMedia, to strengthen community radio broadcasting in Africa by supporting and promoting the value of community broadcasting across the continent.
