On August 29, 2021, Business Today revealed that a Facebook page claiming to offer KCB investment services was, in fact, a scam.
The page, KCB Bank Investment Kenya, was created in June 2021 and used the KCB Group logo as its profile photo and other KCB-linked images to purport offering investment services.
According to the page, users could invest Ksh5,000 and earn Ksh1,000 daily for seven days, totaling Ksh7,000. However, clicking on the link provided led to a browser firewall flagging the site as malicious and suspected phishing.
The page had 744 likes/followers at the time of the article's publication and used a genuine KCB Vooma Loan advertising poster to legitimize itself.
A fact-check by Business Today revealed that the page was a fake and mimicked the genuine KCB Group page. KCB Group has since disowned the page, describing it as a scam and warning stakeholders to be cautious.
“Wadau (stakeholders), we want to inform you that this page is a scam. Do not share any personal info or interact with them thinking it’s us. Please be careful and alert on these internet streets,” KCB Group posted on its verified official page.
