Kenya has recorded a significant rise in Covid-19 cases, with the number now standing at 234,589. This comes after 788 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, as reported by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Saturday, 28th August.
According to Kagwe, the new cases were detected from 6,690 samples, bringing the cumulative number of samples tested to 2,358,930. The country's positivity rate stands at 11.8 per cent.
Of the new cases, 768 are Kenyans, while 20 are foreigners. The age range of those infected is vast, with the youngest being a 14-day-old infant and the oldest being 110 years old.
Recoveries from the disease have also been reported, with a total of 1,478 patients recovering, 1,386 from home-based isolation and care, and 92 from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 219,706.
Unfortunately, 28 more patients have succumbed to the virus, raising the number of deaths to 4,694.
There are currently 1,959 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 7,442 patients are on the home-based isolation and care program.
Some 162 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 114 on ventilatory support, 37 on supplemental oxygen, and 11 patients under observation.
Additionally, 765 patients are on supplemental oxygen, with 713 in general wards and 52 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
The distribution of cases in counties is as follows: Nairobi registered 163 cases, Kiambu 96, Nakuru 73, and so on.
