On a rain-soaked Saturday, August 28, at the Belgian Grand Prix, Lando Norris, a 21-year-old British driver, was involved in a terrifying crash during qualifying. The McLaren driver lost control of his car, spinning multiple times from one side of the track to the other after the rear end hit the barriers at Eau Rouge.
Fortunately, Norris emerged from the wreckage with only minor injuries, admitting, “I’m just a bit bruised.”
Sebastian Vettel, a four-time former world champion, drove up in his Aston Martin to check on Norris' condition, only driving on when he received a thumbs up from the shaken but seemingly unharmed driver.
Despite the harrowing incident, Norris remained optimistic, stating, “I’m ready to race tomorrow and I want to get back on track already because it didn’t end the way I wanted it to.”
Max Verstappen in a Red Bull eventually claimed pole position for Sunday’s race, while Norris will start from the fifth row.
