On September 23, 2016, Paralympic Team Kenya arrived at JKIA after the Brazil games, with Henry Kirwa, a four-time Paralympics gold medalist, and his family in attendance.
Fast forward to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, Kirwa expressed concerns over the heat affecting athletes' performance, saying it's a challenge that needs to be addressed.
'You know your athlete is in top shape, but is wasted by the heat. Yes, you want that precious medal but here is your athlete doing his best that turns out not be good enough,' Kirwa said.
He suggested that coaches and the country should study the weather conditions of the hosting nation and subject the athletes to similar conditions long before the games start.
Eric Kiptoo Sang and Wilson Bii will be in action at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, with the hope of salvaging a disastrous Paralympics outing.
