COVID-19 Positivity Rate Hits 11.8% as Kenya Reports 788 New Cases

On August 28, 2021, the Ministry of Health in Kenya reported a COVID-19 positivity rate of 11.8% following the documentation of 788 cases within a 24-hour period.

The highest number of cases was reported in Nairobi County, with 163 cases, followed by Kiambu (96), Nakuru (73), Nyeri (40), Kirinyanga (33), and Murang'a (32).

Unfortunately, the ministry also reported 28 virus-linked deaths, all of which were picked from audited records on diverse dates in August, bringing the country's COVID-19 fatalities to 4,694.

As of August 28, 2021, a total of 1,959 patients were admitted in various health facilities across the country, while 7,442 others were receiving home-based care.

Additionally, 162 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit, with 114 on ventilatory support and 37 on supplemental oxygen.

According to the ministry, the number of those who had recovered from the disease stood at 219,706, after 1,478 more patients recovered.

As of August 27, a total of 2,726,932 vaccines had been administered across the country, with the proportion of fully vaccinated adults reported at 2.94%.

Willis Akhwale, Chairperson of the Vaccine Deployment Taskforce, announced that 1.7 million doses of Pfizer and 2 million doses of Sinopharm would arrive in September, while another 393,600 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine would arrive by the end of August.
