Motorists and commuters using Mombasa Road in Nairobi are facing a challenging time due to the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.
The construction has caused a massive gridlock, leaving many motorists stranded for hours, with some even spending the night on the road.
Private motorists have blamed truckers for the congestion, while truckers have shifted the blame to the National Highways Authority for failing to build diversions or alternative routes.
However, the highways authority must be held responsible for the gridlock, as they are in charge of the construction.
It is baffling that the authorities did not anticipate the impact of the construction on traffic flow and come up with interventions to mitigate the effects.
As a result, many motorists are left to suffer, wondering why the authorities did not act sooner to address the issue.
