August 28, 2021, marked a significant update for Spotify users, as the music streaming platform introduced a new feature designed to keep users informed about new releases from their favorite artists and podcasts.

With thousands of artists hosting their music and podcasts on Spotify, it can be challenging to stay up-to-date with the latest releases. The new What's New Feed feature aims to address this issue by providing users with a dedicated space to discover new music and podcasts from their favorite artists.

The What's New Feed feature is based on Spotify's Follow Feed feature, which was tested last year. It allows users to see new singles and albums from artists they follow, displayed in a reverse chronological order. This means that the most recent release from their favorite artists will be displayed first, followed by older releases.

Users can access the What's New Feed feature by updating their Spotify app for Android and iOS. Once updated, a new bell icon will appear in the top right corner of the screen within the Home Tab. When new songs, albums, or episodes are released by artists users follow, a blue dot will appear on top of the bell icon, indicating that there are new releases available.

Users can also filter their What's New Feed by selecting 'Music' or 'Podcasts & Shows.' This allows them to see the most recent releases based on the content they're looking for at the time. For example, when users tap on 'Music,' they will only see new tracks and albums from their favorite artists.

It's essential to note that users must follow the artist they're interested in, rather than following playlists with songs from them, for the What's New Feed to display new releases. To ensure they can see the artist's most recent tracks, users should go to the artist's Spotify page and click the 'Follow' button.

Depending on how many artists or creators users follow on Spotify, their What's New feed will be longer. With this new feature, users can stay informed about new releases from their favorite artists and podcasts, making it easier to discover new music and content.
