On June 21, 2021, a tragic incident occurred in Elwak, Mandera County, where two people lost their lives in a shooting incident.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the victims, Kulow Adfan Hassan and Ahmed Abdi Garad, were shot by three police reservists - Ali Abdi Ali, Mohamed Ibrahim Issack, and Ahmed Mohamed Abdilatif - while traveling in a Toyota Succeed on Elwak Dololo road.
The driver of the vehicle managed to escape and reported the incident at the Elwak Police Station, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Following a thorough investigation, the three suspects were positively identified by the survivors of the shooting and were subsequently arrested on August 26, 2021, by Elwak-based detectives.
The trio is currently in custody pending arraignment for relevant charges.
As reported by the DCI on Twitter, 'Completion of investigations where two men were on June 21, 2021 shot dead by National Police Reservists (NPR) in Mandera's Elwak area has today seen three NPR officers arrested.'
