On July 3, 2019, reports emerged that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had arrested Dennis Itumbi outside Charlie's Bistro in Nairobi.
Itumbi, a key figure in the alleged assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto, was taken into custody by detectives who had been tracking him over his involvement in drafting a fake letter.
According to eyewitnesses, Itumbi was bundled into a car by people believed to be police officers.
