Harambee Stars, the national soccer team, began their preparations for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers with a residential training session at the Utalii Grounds in Nairobi on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
Locally-based players called up for national duty reported to camp on Wednesday, August 25, except for AFC Leopards forward Elvis Rupia, who was replaced by Tusker's Henry Meja.
Defender Eugene Asike expressed his excitement about the first training session, saying, “Today's training session was fruitful and exciting, we got to see how good our endurance is and I believe over the next training sessions we will improve and be in our best form for the crucial 2022 World Cup qualifier matches against Uganda and Rwanda,”
Midfielder Lawrence Juma aims to bring his good form from the FKF Premier League to Harambee Stars to help the team achieve a positive result in the upcoming matches.
“I aim to transfer my good form from the league to the team and help attain a positive result in the crucial back-to-back 2022 World Cup qualifying matches against Uganda and Rwanda,” Juma said.
Foreign-based players are set to start checking into the camp from Monday, August 30.
The team will face Uganda on September 2, followed by a match against Rwanda on September 5.
