Thika Road Resident Killed By Hanging KPLC Wire

On August 25, 2021, a tragic incident occurred along Thika Road in Nairobi, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old man identified as Kariuki.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a hanging power line fell onto a tent where Kariuki was working. The transmission wire, which supplied 132 KV to Ruaka station, had fallen from one of the poles due to illegal operation in a restricted area.

Two of Kariuki's colleagues were also electrocuted but survived the incident. They were rushed to the hospital by a good Samaritan following their sustained injuries.

Kenya Power, in an official statement, attributed the incident to illegal operation in a restricted area. The company stated that incidents of hanging wires falling and causing electrocution are mostly caused by individuals who tap into transmission lines using illegal connections.

Kenya Power urged Kenyans to avoid coming close to transmission lines of high voltage and offered condolences to Kariuki's family.
