Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), the country's largest electricity producer, has taken a significant step towards empowering its young staff. On Tuesday, the company launched the Y-Gen initiative, a program aimed at nurturing young employees and supporting their growth in all aspects of life.

According to KenGen, the Y-Gen program is a key component of the company's strategy to develop and retain top talent. The initiative seeks to provide young employees with the necessary skills, knowledge, and opportunities to excel in their careers and achieve their personal goals.

KenGen MD & CEO Rebecca Miano emphasized the importance of the Y-Gen program, stating, "As KenGen begins its journey into the rest of the continent, those within the Y-Gen bracket are truly the carriers and implementers of the Company's global aspirations. The youth will be some of the key beneficiaries when KenGen meets its objectives of value creation, competitively-priced electricity, and increased generation capacity to boost and drive national development."

KenGen has a strong track record of supporting and nurturing women through its Pink Energy initiative. The company has also created a better working environment for women, including facilities such as a fully equipped mothers' room. In 2018, KenGen was named among the best employers in Kenya.
