On August 23, 2021, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Samson Ojwang addressed a public meeting at Saboti trading centre, urging residents to invest in education for the region's future prosperity.
According to Ojwang, the National Government through the Ministry of Education is committed to fighting illiteracy and poverty by ensuring all Kenyan children acquire basic and secondary education. He instructed chiefs and village elders to ensure all children in the area were enrolled in school.
“The government is going to deal with parents whose children are not in school,” warned Ojwang, cautioning parents and guardians against engaging children in unnecessary activities that border on child labour.
He emphasized that education is the only important investment the government and parents can offer to the young ones, and encouraged local politicians and other stakeholders to join hands with the government to ensure the seamless implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).
Ojwang also highlighted the potential of athletics in spurring economic growth and development in Saboti Sub County, citing the mountainous terrain as an ideal environment for producing world-winning athletes.
He called on local politicians to provide support by assisting the national and county government-initiated projects and programmes aimed at developing the sporting activity, and appealed to the political class, investors, and well-wishers to consider investing heavily in athletics in Saboti.
As the Office of the President begins to officially decentralize government services from the county's headquarters in Kitale to Saboti, Ojwang introduced Trans Nzoia West Deputy County Commissioner Charles Ocharo to the residents, who will act as Saboti Deputy County Commissioner until a substantive office holder is deployed to the area.
