As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, the Emmy Awards ceremony has been moved outdoors in a bid to minimize the risk of transmission.
The ceremony, originally scheduled to take place indoors on September 19 in Los Angeles, will now be held on the Event Deck at L.A. LIVE, directly behind the Microsoft Theater.
According to the Television Academy, the decision was made after discussions with Los Angeles County health and safety experts.
As a result, there will be further limits on the number of attendees, including nominees for the highest honors in U.S. television.
Unfortunately, this means that not all nominees will be able to attend this year's awards, the organizers said.
The move comes as Los Angeles reimposes the wearing of masks in all indoor public settings and businesses due to rising numbers of coronavirus infections.
It's not the first time the Emmy Awards have been affected by the pandemic - last year's ceremony took place in an empty studio with nominees joining on video screens from their homes and gardens.
Meanwhile, other live events are also being impacted by the pandemic, including singer Stevie Nicks, who has canceled five concerts due to concerns over the Delta variant.
Additionally, the New Orleans Jazz Festival has been canceled due to rising cases of coronavirus in Louisiana.
