On August 1, 2021, a team of 26 cyclists embarked on the Great African Cycling Safari, a two-month-long 6,000km East African tour to raise awareness of climate change and the need for regional integration.
The cyclists, drawn from East Africa Community member states, have been cruising through Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan, planting trees and preaching peace in their stopovers.
With flags of the six East African countries flying high, the cycling team aims to promote peace, unity, and development in the region through the Experience Africa, Integrate Humanity tour.
As of August 15, 2021, the team had made 18 cumulative stopovers in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, covering over 2,000km of their journey.
The longest bicycle riding tour in the world, according to enthusiasts, is expected to conclude in 55 days, with the cyclists aiming to cover 6,000km across five East African countries.
