On July 3, 2019, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari announced plans to sign the landmark Africa Free Trade Agreement during the African Union meeting in Niger.

According to the Nigerian presidency, the signing of the agreement will take place at the upcoming Extraordinary Summit of the African Union in Niamey, Niger.
