KenGen, Kenya's leading energy generating company, has expressed its intention to share its expertise in renewable energy with South Sudan. This move is part of the East Africa Power Pool Plan, which aims to promote regional energy cooperation.

On a recent tour of its Olkaria geothermal fields, KenGen hosted South Sudan President Salva Kiir and other top officials from the country. The delegation was in Kenya to assess the country's geothermal power projects.

KenGen is a leading geothermal power producer in the world, with a diverse range of services including drilling rigs, rig operation and maintenance, geothermal consulting services, and exporting expertise to neighboring countries. The company has also worked with other African governments, including Ethiopia, Djibouti, Rwanda, and Comoros, in providing consultation services on clean energy generation.

Speaking during the tour, KenGen's Managing Director, Rebecca Miano, said, “Our diverse expertise in energy production has become a point of reference, providing insights to various countries in Africa.”

KenGen's gross revenue increased by 4 percent in 2018, reaching KSh45.2 billion. The company derives its income from electricity sales to Kenya Power, which then supplies electricity to consumers.

As part of its agreement with the Ethiopian government, KenGen will provide consultation and drilling rig services at an estimated cost of KSh5.2 billion.
