On August 20, 2021, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua celebrated his 51st birthday in style at the Emara Hotel, Ole Sereni, with a double party alongside his friend, Tanzanian crooner Rayvanny.

However, the celebration left many Kenyans confused as Mutua's ex-wife Lilian Nganga was also in attendance, and the two were seen being warm and cordial with each other.

Nganga had announced their separation just a week ago, but the two seemed to be enjoying each other's company, sharing a birthday cake and posing for pictures.

Many took to Twitter to express their confusion and skepticism about the situation, with some questioning whether Nganga was forced to attend the party or if she was there willingly.

Earlier this week, Nganga had sent Mutua a sweet birthday message via her social media platforms, captioning a photo of him with 'To 51 and another 51…Happy Birthday.'

Nganga had also announced that she had ended her romantic involvement with Mutua two months ago and would no longer be the Machakos First lady, but would continue with her charity projects in the county.
