On August 22, 2021, a dramatic turn of events unfolded at the World Athletics Under-20 Championship, where Kenya's Zena Cheptoo clinched the silver medal in the 5,000m event.
Initially, Uganda's Prisca Chesang took third place, while Ethiopia's Melknat Wudu secured second position, and Kenya's Zena Cheptoo finished fourth. However, a video review led to the disqualification of both Chesang and Wudu for lane infringement, paving the way for Cheptoo to claim the silver medal.
With a time of 3:17.88, Cheptoo secured Kenya's 16th medal at the Games, while Ethiopia's Mizan Alem took the gold with a time of 3:13.12. Spain's Carla Dominguez won the bronze medal, courtesy of the disqualifications.
