On August 22, 2021, Kenya's COVID-19 positivity rate slowed down to 10.7 per cent, a significant decrease from the 15 per cent rate recorded at the beginning of the month.
The Ministry of Health reported 646 new COVID-19 cases within a 24-hour period, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 229,009 since March 2020.
Nairobi led the number of cases reported on Sunday, followed by Garissa, Kitui, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Machakos.
The Ministry also reported 30 virus-linked deaths, all of which were identified through facility audits in June, July, and August.
As of August 22, the cumulative COVID-19 fatalities stood at 4,497, while the total number of those who have recovered from the disease rose to 212,036.
Those aged 60 years and above continued to account for most of the deaths, with 2,534 fatalities reported.
At the time, 2,063 patients were admitted in various health facilities, while 9,024 patients were on home-based care, and 149 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit.
Kenya was set to receive 880,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the United States government to support the ongoing vaccination efforts.
The Moderna vaccine was being made available in the country for the first time since the national vaccination campaign began in March.
