August 22, 2021, marked a turning point in the tenure of Education CS George Magoha, as the country grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic. Kenyans online were outraged by his handling of the crisis, with many accusing him of being anti-education.

At the beginning of his tenure, Magoha was hailed as a godsend for bringing order to the national examinations system. His reforms had been a collaborative effort with the then-CS, who worked closely with him to set the reforms in motion.

However, last week, it emerged that 400,000 students who sat for the KCSE exams cannot be accounted for in college enrolment. The Education CS blamed school heads and principals, but ultimately, the buck stops at Jogoo House.

Magoha's reforms had been seen as a major step forward in the education sector, but the recent revelation has sparked outrage and raised questions about the effectiveness of his leadership.
