On August 21, 2021, Vincent Keter made history for Kenya by clinching the country's fifth gold medal at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships.

However, the victory was marred by controversy as Kamar Etyang, who finished third, was disqualified for lane infringement.

Despite the disqualification, the Ethiopian duo of Wegene Addisu and Melkeneh Azize secured silver and bronze medals, respectively.

With a time of 3:37.24, Keter delivered a devastating finishing kick to secure the gold medal.
