On October 1, OnlyFans, a popular platform where fans pay creators for exclusive photos and videos, will ban 'sexually explicit' content. This decision comes after requests from banking partners and companies that handle financial transactions.
According to a spokesperson, the ban is not a complete prohibition on nudity, as content that is 'consistent' with the company's policy will still be allowed. However, the exact policy remains unclear, and OnlyFans has not provided further information.
OnlyFans has become a hub for celebrities to interact with fans and for sex workers to post and earn money in a relatively safe environment. The platform has 130 million users and 2 million creators who have collectively earned $5 billion.
Interestingly, OnlyFans is not available as an app on the Apple and Google stores, as these platforms ban pornography. The company has attempted to distance itself from its association with porn by launching an OFTV streaming app, which features content around categories like fitness, cooking, comedy, and music.
OnlyFans' decision to ban 'sexually explicit' content has sparked debate, particularly in Kenya, where socialites like Huddah have introduced other women to the industry. While the move may be seen as a positive step, it remains to be seen whether the platform will survive without its explicit content.
