On August 17, 2021, Chama Cha Kazi Party, led by Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, achieved full registration with the Registrar of Political Parties, paving the way for the party to participate in upcoming by-elections.

The party has since nominated candidates for the by-elections in Kiagu Ward, Meru, and Eldas Ward in Wajir, which are scheduled to take place on October 14, 2021. Another by-election is also set to be held in Makueni's Nguu Masumba ward.

MP Kuria had previously used the People's Empowerment Party to field candidates, but has now shifted his focus to building Chama Cha Kazi, which he unveiled after losing grip of the People's Empowerment Party. He has expressed his commitment to using the newly registered party to field candidates in the 2022 general elections.
