On Wednesday morning, the Nairobi-Nakuru highway witnessed two devastating road accidents that claimed four lives and left one person seriously injured.
According to reports, the first accident occurred near Gilgil town when a vehicle carrying three men was involved in a head-on collision with a trailer. The three men died instantly, and their bodies were left at the scene with blood and fuel mixing freely.
Police at the scene identified only two of the victims, with the third still unidentified. The cause of the accident was attributed to one of the vehicles overtaking before the crash.
Just hours later, a boda boda operator was hit and killed by a motorist in Karai, Naivasha. The driver escaped from the scene, leaving behind the lifeless body of the middle-aged man who was ferrying potatoes to a nearby market.
This incident brings to six the number of motorcycle operators who have been killed by motorists on the section of the road in the last two months.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru decried the rising number of fatal accidents involving boda boda operators, attributing the cases to speeding and fog.
Residents of Ihindu trading centre had previously blocked the highway for over two hours to protest the rising number of fatal accidents involving pedestrians and motorcycle operators.
