On Thursday morning, Kayole residents in Nairobi took to the streets to protest the alleged killing of a 38-year-old man by police officers during curfew enforcement.

According to reports, the victim, John Kiiru, was beaten to death by police officers who had cornered him at Tushauriane Stage in Kayole after he allegedly violated the 10pm-4am curfew.

Esther Wanjiru, Kiiru's spouse, told The Standard that he called her at 12:30am on Thursday, informing her that he had been seriously assaulted by police officers.

Protesters barricaded roads and lit bonfires, demanding action be taken against Kiiru's killers. Police attempts to take his body from the scene were met with opposition.
